Cool it with terrorist talk
July 30, 2007

    Editor:

Supervisor Pete Byers is way out of line. The article he wrote July 19 is filled with name-calling and vitriolic comments toward those who question high taxation and how their money is being spent. I am not one of those who has called Mr. Byers, but I do support tax cuts. So when he uses terms like "knee-jerk reactors" or "out of the loopers" or "tax-revolt terrorists," I suppose he includes me. I also don't want "free" government services as he refers to it; I realize that nothing is free, someone always pays. Also, I am not one who has made "stupid demands," his words. I don't consider myself a "loud-mouthed expert," his words, and I don't want a "dictator" to "agree with me 100 percent of the time," his words. He also calls those who question him "small-minded fanatics." I resent the way Mr. Byers seemingly lumps everyone who would like to see a tax break into those categories, especially "terrorist." I'm sure that he can state his opinion without name-calling. It's repulsive to see a man in his position resorting to such juvenile tactics. So cool it, Pete, and from now on, try to understand that taxes can be burdensome, and to try to lower them has always been an issue in this country's history.
