Letters to the Editor
Property taxes eating away at spending power Editor: I am just amazed at how compassionate the people are in the Tri-state. A lot of charities are fully taken care of here. Even so wages and salaries are very low and people struggle to make a life. The county, however, has no like sentiments. They announce in the paper homes and property for sale or auction. Stolen from people who are made homeless or taken in by relatives. By the unfair property tax law. My taxes have gone up almost 100 percent in four years. Another four years and I will have to get a mortgage on my home just to pay these unfair taxes. The only relief in site is Marc Goldstone's Arizona tax revolt. The county steals property from the residents of the county with the unfair and unjust tax law. Written by a politician lawyer and fed to the voters as a good law. Property should only be taxed once when you buy it, end of taxes on that property. They say well police, firemen and schools have to have the money. Well schools are only built with bonds. My taxes and yours, too, have increased one hundred percent in four years. Firemen and teachers barely qualify to rent apartments. As printed in this paper so they aren't getting all this tax increase. I don't know of any dirt roads that have been paved. In California the superintendent of public schools gets a salary much larger than the governor. A lot of money is given to schools, but administration gets most of it, not the teachers. That's probably happening here. Plus county big guys and city big guys. A founder of our country, I believe it was Jefferson, said you should follow the law as long as it is just. But when the law is unjust you should not follow it. The county could stop the property tax law and impose a sales tax. So everyone could see how much they are taking from him. By the way the county already puts a tax on all your utilities. Did anyone vote for that? Oh, gasoline too, since you pay so little for it. I feel that anyone with so little compassion for their fellow citizens as to bid on property that is stolen by the county with this unfair and unjust law should be spit upon.
