Something needs done about skyrocketing taxes-

People are missing the point with respect to Marc Goldstone and the Arizona Tax Revolt. First it was the Bullhead City fire chief and now a letter from Bill Kinsey (Aug. 16) who sure sounds like he's also employed by the Fire Department or another local government agency and if he is, it's only fair he should disclaim that.

Kinsey asks about the “waste and inefficiency” Goldstone refers to in our fire department and schools. Well, I believe he was missing the point, but I'll bite. How about that fire boat that now sits at Katherine Landing that was part of a local fire department - a recreational design made into a fire boat, that never worked and I wonder how much that cost. Does the chief still drive that 8-mpg, three-and-a-half ton Excursion SUV to fires? How much did that prison fence around Mohave High School end up costing us? What is this latest scandal in the Bullhead City public works offices costing us taxpayers?

You see, I'm not all down on the BCFD nor the schools. The simple fact is that property taxes are skyrocketing. You pay taxes to the county based on an unrealized gain, how fair is that? How do you fine folks in the fire department expect people to keep their homes when the taxes go up 100 and even 200 percent per year? Take out your phone bill, water, sewer, electricity bill and look at the taxes there! Food is up double digits this year and gasoline is ridiculous. How do you people in government think we can afford this?

And lately, take a look at the two biggest home lenders in the country going bankrupt. Property taxes are ridiculous and surely have at least contributed to this demise.

So, I believe some are missing the overall picture of Mr. Goldstone's message. He's trying to help us keep our hard-earned homes. Taxes are through the roof and it's simply not right. I would urge those in government not to cherry-pick what he says and look at the big picture. The state of Arizona is right now awash in a sea of cash, which should tell you something; why should we continue with this grossly unfair property tax system?

And since I mentioned Kinsey should disclaim any bias he may have, I will. My wife sits on Goldstone's board.
